Nanoindentation
A nanoindenter is an instrument used to create indentations or punchers on the surface of a sample so that quantum dots can be assembled in to patterns. This instrument can move in the x, y, and z directions to make precise indentations.

The tip of the nanoindenter is a manufactured diamond and it is used because it can puncture any surface without deteriorating itself completely.
The picture to the left is an indention that was created by a manufactured diamond used by a nanoindentor.

Components of a Nanoindenter

This machine is very helpful full to engineering in the nanomanufacturing field because it can precisely space out the indentations on a surface and make them according to the numbers that are entered on a computer. The most important parts of the nanoindenter are the indenter and the motorized. With the absence of these parts you do not have an actual nanoindenter. The motorized stage is used to move the sample, which consists of any solid substance, into different places along the base of the nanoindenter.
